The big journey

Started at 10am Sat Jan 3rd, ended at 3pm on Monday Jan 5th. The only question, will the McHardskiVan break the 1000km a tank record? after 2.5 years of Norwegie roads and 4th gear, it was finally time to put it into 5th!

Kayaker ice breaking in Kristiansand harbour while i wait for the ferry to Denmark

Denmark! the land of lego and exceptionally beautiful ladies!

Thanks to Siv and Ole for a lovely evening with a few beers and stories of supermodels that grew up next door! oh yes, and directions on how to get to Germany!

A windswept beach in Northern Denmark! thats the Baltic sea pretty much!

Germany! - the land of sausages and prettier ladies than Aberdeen but not as pretty as Denmark! Finding the train station without one of those GPS things was interesting, looking at a map, getting lost, one handed driving, in one of germanys biggest cities! but got there with a few hours to spare....

Driving through Hamburg train station platform!!

The skivan on top of a train

View along the top of the train!

Leaving Hamburg Altona

Switzerland! - the land of clocks, Chocolate, Heidi, and a few small Ski resorts here and there. In the morning i got off the train near the swiss border in a place called Lorrach. I instantly got lost and unlost and made it through switzerland to Basel, Lausanne and then Geneva. Unfortunatley i was too busy trying to wake up and not get lost to take any photos! :-(

France! - Destinatio! The land of the Royal with Cheese, birthplace of Franz Klammer, and more.

Here is a photo of the hills behind Grenoble as i was about to plunge into the French Alps

Finally! the view of la meije from the balcony of The Igloo - my home for the next 4 months. Scary biscuits!!

max distance on 1 tank: 975km! arghhh. Dougal i told ya we should have used 2 by 2 not 2 by 4! :-)
